People who have struggled with learning differences (learning disabilities) may have been shamed, talked down to, and humiliated. When you were younger, you may have been told that you were lazy, and you may have even been made fun of by some of your friends or peers. These types of events in your life can cause you to have low self-esteem, low self-worth, and create other challenges that follow you in your life.
Our brain is made up of neural networks where the memories are stored. As we learn new behaviors, neural networks are changed, or created. Negative experiences are also stored within neural networks, but the difference is neural networks with the negative memories are similar to roadblocks; it is challenging to get past or adapt. Cognitive-behavioral therapy Can help challenge those memories to create new pathways to eliminate the trauma.
Individuals that have lived with learning differences like dyslexia and attention deficit hyperactivity and other similar learning differences already heard that this doesn’t have anything to do with their IQ. It is essential to repeat it. Most school systems, as well as a society, look at things in a particular way. People who have lived with these learning differences do not fit in that square block.
A lot of times, people with learning differences may feel alone and left out. They may feel shame they may feel angry; they may feel abandoned. Sometimes they even think that there is no use and there’s nothing we can do.
